I have always had an interest in construction and architecture.  From a young age I spent many an afternoon in Dad’s (Bernie’s) office after school, drawing on his boards.  Before pursuing my career in architectural design I worked as a builders labourer, giving me a practical hands on experience of how buildings are put together.  I completed my National Diploma in Architectural Technology at Unitec in 2002.  I have been working at BK Design since 2000, with a little 1 year sabbatical to Ireland in 2007 and a year of travelling to India, South America and New York in 2008.  While in Ireland I managed to travel Europe, while still working for a small Architecture firm.  The work was very rewarding and has helped to develop my own style as an Architectural Designer.  A highlight of my time there was having the opportunity to work on a 400 year old church and its conversion to a functioning performing arts space.

I enjoy the whole design process, from the first meeting with the clients, listening to and interpreting their ideas into a functioning design, right through to finally seeing the finished product.  As an architectural designer I believe it is my place to offer the client options and ideas that they may not have otherwise thought about, while still being sympathetic to their ideas.  I find it’s the ability to think outside of the box and step out of your comfort zone which can at times, make good design great.

I look forward to starting this journey with you.
