My career in Architectural Design began in the Rodney County Councils Civil Engineering Department. Although this is far removed from what I do today, it has provided me with a strong fundamental base knowledge of the area I work and live in, which I would never have had moving straight into the field. After leaving the Rodney County Council in 1987 I was appointed office manager of the Warkworth branch of Whangarei Architecture and Engineering firm Dunning Hawthorne Geddes. (Hawthorne Geddes today) We provided each other with many different skill sets and I can attribute my knowledge of local soils to the years I spent working there. I still have a very close working relationship with Hawthorne Geddes to this day. In 1995 BK design was born. From my early formative years to the present day I have had a focus on producing functional and meaningful designs that are client driven. All projects are given the same in-depth assessment and design input to produce the best creative and practical solutions. I believe that good design is fundamental to all architecture no matter how large or modest the project and my ultimate aim is to create architecture which is thoroughly appreciated by those who occupy it. Over my 28 year career as a designer I have worked on many different projects, ranging from small residential to large commercial warehouses. Through the years many things have changed, but the one thing that hasn’t is good design.
