My journey in architectural design began in the Rodney County Council’s Civil Engineering Department. Although it might seem far removed from my current work, it provided me with a strong fundamental knowledge of the area I work and live in. Leaving the Rodney County Council in 1987, I was appointed office manager of the Warkworth branch of Whangarei Architecture and Engineering firm Dunning Hawthorne Geddes (now Hawthorne Geddes). This role exposed me to diverse skill sets and deepened my understanding of local soils, which has proven invaluable throughout my career.

In 1995, I founded BK Design, marking a significant milestone in my career. From the early years to the present day, my focus has always been on producing functional and meaningful designs driven by client needs. Every project, regardless of size, receives the same level of attention to detail and creative input to ensure the best possible solutions. I firmly believe that good design is essential in all architecture, and my ultimate goal is to create spaces that are thoroughly appreciated by those who inhabit them.

Over my 28-year career, I’ve worked on a wide range of projects, from small residential buildings to large commercial warehouses. Despite the changes in the industry over the years, my commitment to good design has remained unwavering.

Now, as I retire and hand over the reins to Haden, I’m proud of the legacy I’ve built. Haden’s new business, Haden Kose Architecture, inherits not just a business but a tradition of integrity, creativity, and client-focused excellence that has defined my career. I’m confident that Haden will carry on this legacy and continue to uphold the standards of quality and innovation that have been the hallmark of BK Design.
